Variable Temperature Chamber
all magnets 31 mm and wider

1. PURPOSE

This unit is essentially a variable temperature chamber which is used to to prepare magnetically aligned samples such as membrane proteins at higher fields (19.6 T, 33 T, or 45 T magnets) for later analysis by solid state NMR. Control of temperature regime is essential for this procedure. Users of this device are group members of prof. Tim Cross and prof. Stan Opella (UCSD).

2. FEATURES

  • Minimum operational bore size: 28.9 mm
  • Can be used with any resistive magnet, including 33 T and 45 T hybrid
  • Maximum temperature: +130°C (+100°C in 833 MHz magnet)
  • Interchangeable sample holders screwed on top (see insets)
  • Heater: 66 Ohms
  • Thermocouple: T-type

Different samples can be accomodated by using custom holders screwed inline with VT air flow
