Research proposals for the 900 instrument time must be submitted to Riqiang Fu and must
address the following:
- A cover page lists the project title, funding source, all personnel involved including collaborators with affiliations and graduate students;
- A proposal summary page includes scientific justification, high field justification, and wide bore justification. It would be a plus to appendix preliminary results obtained at lower fields, if any.
- Specify the type of proposed experiments (exploratory or standard) and estimate a total time needed for the experiments.
- Research performance competence.
This criterion relates to the capability of the investigator(s), the technical soundness, and the capability available on the instrument.
- Intrinsic merit of the research.
This criterion is used to assess the likelihood that the research will develop or demonstrate a significant capability on the wide bore 900 magnet and will help to move the commissioning phase forward.
- The 900 In-house Science Review Committee will review and rank the proposals based on the review criteria. The users will be contacted once the proposal is reviewed;
- Upon approval, users will be contacted and asked to submit time request through on-line system;
- The system administrator will coordinate all time requests and accommodate users based on the availability of the instrument.
- A feedback is required from the users as soon as possible, such as within a week, after each of their assigned time. The short report generally includes
(1) summarizing results obtained on the 900;
(2) If the experiments are successfully demonstrated, can the capability (or pulse sequences) be available to other users?
If not, what need to done in terms of instrumentation for the experiments? The report template is provided here.
Note that no 900 NMR time will be assigned to the users until the report is received.
